Currency formatting
Currency formatting is the display of price according to the chosen currency unit on the store. Changing currency formatting will help customers read the correct price of products and services, which further improves user experience of your online store. This article will guide you on how to change the currency formatting.
A. Types of currency formatting
B. Currency formatting options
C. Change currency formatting
D. How currency is displayed on your store
In total, there are two types of currency formatting used in different parts of your online store including:
HTML without currency: used on online store and ShopBase admin.
Email without currency: used in notification form and order printing.
There are a number of ways you can display the prices on your store:
{{amount}} : E.g.: 1,135.99
{{amount_with_comma_separator}} : E.g.: 1.135,99
{{amount_with_apostrophe_separator}} : E.g.: 1'135.99
{{amount_no_decimals}} : E.g.: 1, 135
{{amount_no_decimals_with_comma_separator}} : E.g.: 1.135
The price will be rounded up if the decimal number is greater than or equal to 50, or rounded down if it is below 50.
Currency format is rounded to 2 decimal places. Regardless of which currency format you chose, payment at your store's checkout will always show decimals.
From your ShopBase admin, go to Settings > General.
In the Store currency section, click Change formatting.
In each of the fields, replace the current currency format, such as {{amount}}, with a new one that you want to use as listed in section B.
Click Save once finished.
You can only change the store currency before you've made your first sale. Stores that have received real orders can no longer change their currency format.
If currency conversion is NOT enabled on your store: The currency format set up in Settings > General > Store currency will be applied to display the currency code on your storefront, checkout page, and emails.
If currency conversion is enabled on your store:
The currency code of the selected store currency in Settings > General > Store currency will be used as the default currency code for your store. For example, if you select US dollar (USD) to be your store currency, the default currency code for your store will be $ (USD).
The currency code will be automatically converted to other formats based on the customer's location and the supported currency in the Currency setting in your Theme editor. For example, if the customer's location is in Japan, and the Japanese Yen is supported by and set up in the Theme editor, the currency code will be changed to ¥ when this customer visits your store.
If you are using ShopBase Global to set up the pricing in your store, the Currency setting in Theme will no longer be valid. Please refer to this article for more information on ShopBase Global.
