Enable Klarna and Afterpay Buy Now, Pay Later on your store

With Klarna and Afterpay payment methods, you can provide Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) offerings for your customers so that they will be able to spread their payments over longer periods, giving them a more flexible way to pay for their online purchases. On ShopBase, you can configure this settings after successfully connecting Stripe and activating the corresponding BNPL to your store. By doing so, you are providing your customers with an additional payment method to choose from, increasing your store's conversion rates while still receiving full order profits from Stripe.

A. Connect Stripe account



Before activating Klarna and/or Afterpay for your customers, make sure your store is connected to Stripe payment gateway. Kindly follow this guide to setup your Stripe account on ShopBase admin site.

B. Activate Klarna and Afterpay



Make sure Klarna and/or Afterpay payment methods are activated for your Stripe account.

Login to your Stripe dashboard.

Log in your Stripe dashboard
Go to Settings > Payment methods.

Find Payment Methods in Settings
You will see a list of payment methods available to activate used in your Stripe account. Make sure to activate Klarna and/or Afterpay before integrating these payment methods to your store.

From this list, activate the payment methods you need
Login to your ShopBase admin and go to Settings > Payment providers. Select the Stripe account you wish to activate BNPL payment methods and click the button next to European payment methods until it switches into a blue color.


Activate Klarna and/or Afterpay as needed.


Payment method that was successfully activated will have an active status next to its name.

Click Save once finished.

Make sure the method you need is already activated on your Stripe dashboard before activating.
The payment method for each country will be accordingly displayed to the customers when their location is entered and the corresponding currency is selected in the checkout page.
It is recommended that you set up ShopBase Global in order for your customers to conveniently make payments in different currencies and from different locations.

C. Deactivate Buy Now Pay Later payment methods



You can easily deactivate your Klarna and/or Afterpay payment methods by clicking the Deactivate button at that method. Then, click Save once finished.

Press Deactivate button to turn off BNPL payment method on your store.

D. Additional notes



The following practices are highly recommended when setting up Klarna and/or Afterpay Buy Now, Pay Later on your store:

Before setting up Klarna and/or Afterpay on your store, you must first set up the market in ShopBase Global that corresponds to your target country.
You need to check to see if the country of your Klarna/Afterpay account matches the location of your target country.
If the country in your Stripe account has changed, you must disconnect and reconnect the existing Stripe account from your ShopBase admin so that the new location is updated on our system.
If the customer's selected location and currency during checkout does not match your account's country, the payment method will not be displayed on the checkout page.
For each payment method, specific conditions must be met as follows:

For Klarna payment methods:


Your Klarna account country must be on the list of supported countries from which Klarna customers can make Buy Now Pay Later payments. For example, if your Klarna account country is in the United States, you can only accept Klarna payments from customers in the United States.
Particularly for the European market, your Klarna account can be in any of the European countries on the list and still accept Klarna payments from customers in another European country. For example, if your Klarna account country is the United Kingdom, you can still accept Klarna payments from customers in Spain who pay in EUR.


If the customer's country and currency selected at checkout match the rules of Klarna, the Klarna payment method will be displayed on the checkout page.

Klarna payment method is shown only in euros (EUR) at checkout to customers in the following countries or regions:

Austria
Belgium
Finland
France
Germany
Ireland
Italy
Netherlands
Spain

If your customers are in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom, or United States, they can't check out in EUR. Customers in these countries need to use their local currencies.

For Afterpay payment method


The Afterpay payment method will be displayed on the checkout page if the following conditions are met:

Your Afterpay account country must correspond to the customer's address and currency selected at checkout.
The customer must use their local currency that corresponds to their address.

For example, if your Afterpay account country is the United Kingdom, you can only accept Afterpay payments from customers in United Kingdom who pay in GBP. However, if your customer is in Spain who checks out using EUR currency, the Afterpay payment method will not be displayed on the checkout page.
