Add a custom domain to ShopBase store

A domain is the URL, or the website address, where your Buyers go to find your store online. By default, your online store has a onshopbase.com URL when you sign up for ShopBase. Before you begin selling, you must add at least one custom domain to your store in order to increase store credibility and allow the Buyers to complete payments for their orders.

You can add a custom domain to ShopBase in the following ways:

Buy a custom domain through ShopBase: If you want to buy a new domain, you can buy one from ShopBase to simplify the setup process. Please refer to this article for more information on how to buy a domain from ShopBase.
Connect your custom domain to ShopBase: If you already have a domain from a third-party provider, then you can connect this custom domain to your online store. You will still use the third-party domain provider to manage your domain settings, pay for your domain, and renew it.

In this article, we will show you how to connect a custom domain to your ShopBase store.

In this article

A. Prepare and setup your domain's settings
B. Connect your domain to ShopBase store
C. Number of domains connected per store

A. Prepare and setup your domain's settings

To use your own domain, you need to add these 2 following records in your hosting account's DNS settings:

A record points to 52.10.27.176
CNAME record points to connect.shopbase.com.

You can point domains such as companyname.com, www.companyname.com, and store.companyname.com to your preference according to the guide below. While we take screenshots from Cloudflare's domain settings, this guide can be used for most domain providers, such as Namecheap, Godaddy, etc.

For companyname.com, www.companyname.com domains

Login to your account on the hosting provider (E.g.: CloudFlare, Namecheap, Godaddy), then go to the DNS settings.

Remove the existing cache related to companyname.com, www.companyname.com domains if your website is being pointed to other locations rather than ShopBase.

Add new records.

Create a record with Type A, Host @, Points to 52.10.27.176 as in the image below and click Save.

Create a record with Type CNAME, Host www, Points to connect.shopbase.com as in the image below and click Save.

For store.companyname.com domains

Login to your account on the hosting provider (E.g.: CloudFlare, Namecheap), then go to the DNS settings.

Remove the old records (if any) related to store.companyname.com domain if your website is being pointed to other locations than ShopBase.

Add a new record as follows:

Create a record with Type CNAME, Host store.companyname.com, Points to connect.shopbase.com.

If your domain is from Cloudflare.com, you need to turn off proxy (change the orange cloud to grey or DNS Only) for both A and CNAME records.

You can visit this link to check if your A record (companyname.com) and CNAME record (www.companyname.com) have been updated.

Enter your domain name (without www) to check your A record
Enter your domain name (with www) to check your CNAME record

On your ShopBase admin, go to Online Store > Domains.

Click on Connect Existing domain.

Enter the domain you want to connect and click Next.
