Once you have a store on ShopBase or other platforms (such as Shopify), the advertising account you run for that store assigns tracking code to each product, which is optimized over time. When you want to switch to a new ShopBase store, product information will be updated again, and the tracking code of each product will be renewed. This can affect the store's ability to optimize ads and revenue. Therefore, stores should use old tracking codes for products in the following ways to send information to advertising platforms (such as Facebook Ads, GMC,...), especially when the products that used to have good sales. This definitely helps you convert stores while maintaining sales.

In this section

A. Maintain the tracking code when switching stores from other platforms
B. Maintain the tracking code for the old product when switching from one ShopBase store to another

A. Maintain the tracking code when switching stores from other platforms

In case you want to customize the product IDs that are sent to marketing services (Facebook, Google, etc), please add a tag to your product with the format track-id-XXXX. ShopBase will use XXXX as product id to send along to marketing services when buyers perform actions like view product, add to cart or purchase. It's also applied to product feeds. Therefore, it will be pushed into item_group_id attribute in your feed file or through API feed.

Add product tag in Edit product page

After finishing import products to ShopBase, you proceed to feed products to Google and Facebook. Google and Facebook will identify your product information with IDs, tags then analyze actions of users, which helps you to improve store and increase revenue.

B. Maintain the tracking code for the old product when switching from one ShopBase store to another

The tracking code reuse feature will assist you in transitioning from your old ShopBase store to a new one quickly. It is also convenient for Google or Facebook to recognize your store's products and optimize those products based on old data. This feature is especially useful, in case an old ShopBase store has a large number of products.

Step by step Tutorial

From ShopBase admin page with the product information you want to ship, go to Products. Select the products you want to convert to another store and press Export to export the product information from the store to a CSV file.

The dialog appears. If you want to reuse the tracking code of a product to move to a new store, check the box Use IDs from exported products for ads optimization (Facebook Ads, GMC, ...) on your other stores. Choose Selected products under Export:. Select the file type to export in the section Export as:. Press Export to export the file.

In the file containing the product information exported above, the system automatically adds a tag to each product with the form track-id-XXXX in the Tag column. XXXX is the tracking code of the product.

In ShopBase admin page of the new store to which you want to move products, go to Products. Click Import. A dialog box appears then click Choose file to select the file just exported above. Click Upload file.

Products uploaded to the new store will be tagged in the form of track-id-XXXX with XXXX as the product's tracking code. When you submit product feed information to Google and Facebook, the system will use this tracking code of the product to populate the item_group_id field. However, in case the product has multiple tags with the form of track-id-XXXX, the system will take the added tags respectively to post them on Google, Facebook.

For example: You have a product with the tag track-id-XXXX in the current store, when exporting the data the system creates a new tag with the form track-id-YYYY. When you upload a file containing this product information to a new store, that store will use track-id-XXXX instead of track-id-YYYY, as the track-id-XXXX tag was created.
