When moving store to ShopBase and reconnecting to advertising campaigns, tracking IDs are renewed. This impacts on store's advertising optimization and revenue. Customizing your products' tracking IDs to old ones will be a perfect solution to maintain revenue and improve advertising campaigns.

A. Why do you need to customize tracking ID?

When your store already runs advertising campaigns on other platforms (such as Shopify), your advertising account have had tracking IDs being customized and optimized by time. When you migrate your store to ShopBase and reconnect it again, the tracking ID will be renewed. This could affect your advertising optimization and your revenue. Therefore, your store should use the old tracking ID for products to sent to marketing services (Facebook Ads, GMC, etc) by following this guideline.

B. Guideline

In case you want to customize the product IDs that are sent to marketing services (Facebook, Google, etc), please add a tag to your product with format track-id-XXXX. ShopBase will use XXXX as product id to send along to marketing services when buyers perform actions like view product, add to cart or purchase. It's also applied to product feeds. Therefore, it will be pushed into item_group_id attribute in your feed file or through API feed.

You can use edit product page, or import product CSV file (select Override when you import) to update product tag. Especially when you have just moved to ShopBase from other platforms and you need to maintain the revenue.

1. Add product tag in Edit product page

To import a new product to ShopBase, access ShopBase admin >> Products >> Add product or Edit product.

Refer this article to add product details.

After adding such product information as: Title, Images, Description, Price..., besides other product tags you should add a tag under the format of track-id-XXXX ; XXXX is an ID of your product which was sold at another platform (namely Shopify).
Finish updating other information of this product and click Save.

2. Add product tag by CSV file

Click Import in Product Page admin to add products by CSV file.

In CSV file, you add product tag under track-id-XXXX format into Tags column, locate your file, then import to ShopBase.

After finishing import products to ShopBase, you proceed to feed products to Google and Facebook. Google and Facebook will identify your product information with IDs, tags then analyze actions of users, which helps you to improve store and increase revenue.

C. Use products' tracking IDs for Ads optimization in other stores

If you want to keep products' IDs of old stores when importing those products to new stores and shortening movements, the feature of adding tag track-id-{{product-id}} into export files for all products will help you.

Go to Admin >> Products >> Export. Then, a popup as below is shown with customize fields. Please check the first box, if you want to reuse the current products' IDs when importing those products to new stores.

After exporting, product file will automatically have an additional tag under a format track-id-{{product-id}} in Tag column.

When importing this file to new store, products are tagged under a format track-id-{{product-id}}. When you proceed to feed products to Google or Facebook, the system will input this product ID into Attribute item_group_id, instead of product ID of the current store.

However, in case that a product has many tags as track-id-{{product-id}}, the system will choose the tag as assigned respectively to add on marketing services. For example, a product tagged track-id-XXXX previously, is generated another tag of track-id-{{product-id}} after being exported. The system will use the tag track-id-XXXX instead of track-id-{{product-id}}.

With this feature of exporting products, it will save time of transferring between stores and optimize product advertisements.
