Automatically generate SKU when importing and creating products on ShopBase

SKUs (stock keeping units) are product codes that can be used internally to track inventory and report sales. With ShopBase, you can enable automatic product SKU generation and customize the SKU template for easier product management. This article will guide you on how to do so in just a few easy steps.

This feature is temporarily unavailable due to maintenance.

Step by Step Tutorial

From your ShopBase admin site, go to Online store > Preferences.

In Automatically generate SKU, click Enable automatically generate SKU.

In the text box, you can customize the SKU template using variables. Supported variables are as follows:

{{Created time}}
{{Product type}}
{{Product title}}
{{Product vendor}}
{{Option value 1}}
{{Option value 2}}
{{Option value 3}}

You can also add text to the template upon your wish.

In addition, you also have some advanced options to create templates for your product SKU such as:

Use the first letter for each word, except Created time (Ex: Summer T-shirt -> ST).
Only use maximum first 10 characters of each variable.
Remove spaces in variable value (if any).
Add randomized letters at the end of SKU to avoid duplication.

You can preview your SKU as in the photo below:

This settings is applied to all product creation methods.
In case you import products using a CSV file, SKUs will only be automatically generated for products/variables that do not have a SKU value in the uploaded CSV file.
