Create a custom option for a product

By creating custom options for products, your customers can customize some of the characteristics of the product according to their preferences before placing an order. With ShopBase, you can easily create personalized products by adding custom options to a new or created product in store as instructed in this article.

Also, if you want to create custom options for multiple products, you should use a CSV file as instructed in this article.

A. Create a custom option for a product



From ShopBase admin site, go to Products > All products.

Click Add products to create a new product, or click on the name of an existing product you want to add Custom options to. Please refer to this article for more information on fields in the product detail page and how to fill in or edit accordingly.

In Personalization section, click Create custom option only.


In Custom options, fill in the requirements for your custom options. Press Add another option if you want to add another custom option to the product.


Here's a breakdown of the custom option attributes:

Name: the identifier for the custom option, often used for internal reference. (this name is not visible to customers).

Label (display on storefront): the description of the custom option that displayed on the storefront.

Type: the type of custom option, including Text field (allows customers to add text on products with limit of 30 characters), Text area (allows customers add text on products with limit of 140 characters, use a carriage return), Image (allows customers to upload their image to the product), Radio buttons (allows customers to choose from a list of available suggestions, button display suggestions), Droplist (allows customers to choose from the a list of available suggestions in the drop-down menu display), Checkbox (allows customers to choose from a list of available suggestions in a checkbox), Picture choice (allows the customers to select their favorite image printed on the product from the list of pictures suggested by the seller, instead of manually adding it).

Required? (Yes/No): you choose whether to include personalization in the product is required or not.

Placeholder : a placeholder text that provides guidance to customers on what to input or select.

Default value (prefill on storefront): the pre-filled value, if customers want to change them, they need to delete to fill their own text in the box.

Allow the following characters field lets you choose characters that customers can use.

Charge fee for this custom option: Indicate whether selecting this custom option will result in an extra fee.

Click Save changes.

B. Export orders with customized products



Please refer to this article on how to export orders in CSV format.

To export information about customized products in your order, click Customize export fields in Export template and select Lineitem Properties field.


Once exported, data will be displayed on Line-item Properties column in the CSV file, including the custom option's name and label.
